VSP investigating fatal crash in Rockingham County

Virginia State Police are investigating a crash involving two vehicles Wednesday August 3rd, around 9:30 p.m. The crash occured at the intersection of Rt 42 and Route 765 in Rockingham County.

VSP reports that a 1997 Mercury mini van had stopped at the stop sign on Rt 765 at the intersection with Rout 42. The Mercury, driven by 71 year old Gerald Will of Hinton, VA, then attemped a left turn on to Rt 42. It collided with a northbound 2008 BMW, that was traveling at a high rate of speed.

Will was transported to Sentara RMH with life-threatening injuries from the crash, where he later succumbed to those injuries.

The passenger in the Mercury, 78 year old Jean Will of Hinton, was transported to UVA Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Both people in the Mercury were wearing seatbelts.

A 17 year old male was driving the BMW. He suffered minor injuries and was transported to Sentara RMH for treatment. He was wearing a seatbelt. Further, the driver of the BMW has been charged with driving under the influence.
